Extremely slow file transfer to usb external hard drive and pen drives RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I've seen a couple of similar questions have been asked but as yet I don't have an answer.

I have got EXTREMELY slow/non existent file transfer speeds between my USB external hard drive/pen drives and my HDD.

Initially when connecting the external hard drive, it takes an age to even load up and slows the whole system down.

Both the pen drives and the hard drive work fine on other computers (not tried on another Windows 7 computer).

I've done numerous checks for updates and I'm as certain as I can be that the USB drivers are the most up to date (the computer was only built around 5 months ago and has always had this problem)

I have tried using 3rd party software for file transfer but this runs into the same errors.

    I am running:

    Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

    Service Pack 1

    AMD Athlon II X4 640GB Processor 3.00GHz

I'm not sure what technical specifications are needed to help with this so just shout and i'll get them to you.

    thanks for looking in.

  • Thought I should also mention that I have no problem at all copying, moving files from/to my Android phone.
When connected that works a charm.

  • This issue can be related to the device. For example:

iAUDIO 7 16 GB - Fixed the USB transfer speed

If there is any drivers and new BIOS in the motherboard or computer manufacturer download website, please install them. Also you may try to find if there is any firmware updates for the devices.

  • all drivers and BIOS chipset are up to date as stated in OP.

I can't find any newer drivers for the hard drive and both pen drives.

I have an integral 8GB pen drive, a play.com 2gb pen drive and a sony 40gb external hard drive.

  • My mouse and keyboard are wireless so i need them plugged in at all times. I'd have to try and get my hands on wired ones to try this out. thanks.
