Windows 7 error messages RRS feed

  • Question

  • My version of Windows 7 is slowly dying a painful death. I get error messages when I try to do updates

I get error c0000374 when trying to upgrade to Windows 10

When i try to do anything program related i get file system error 1073740940

I also not have " Windows 7 , build 7601, this is not a genuine windows copy " in the bottom right of my screen

I have had my laptop a few years and changed nothing to trigger this problem.

i run avg and zonealarm as antivirus and firewall respectively and have done without issue for 10+ years on various computers but now i can't even get them to update.

  • Hi Kieran,

According to your description, system seemed has some trouble, maybe you could try clean boot to see if can do some configuration on system. If clean boot has no effect, I suggest to use SFC tool to repair system.

Besides, as you said, I know your system is genuine, for OEM computer, product key may be stuck on the laptop’s backside, you need it to activate your machine, if you couldn’t find it, please contact the manufacturer for assistance.

  • Hi Kieran,

At first, about that “not a genuine windows copy” message, it indicates that you need to activate your Windows 7 system. There is an official website tell us how to activate Windows on our machine.

After activating system, please refer to this link below to see the methods what we can try when the error c0000374 popped up.

  • Hi Teemo ,

none of that works. I cannot access any properties or system functions despite being on administrator account. It just doesn't do anything. It is a genuine version of windows that was pre installed on laptop

No update/system/property functions work at all in any program ( except firefox )
