Azure Information Protection - Revoke Access RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We were evaluating both Microsoft RMS sharing app and Azure Information Protection client. We noticed that Microsoft RMS sharing app has the option to instantly revoke access from a shared file as per the below screenshot.

When using the Azure Information Protection client we noticed that this particular feature is not available when protecting files manually. The only way to control this is using RMS templates to control the number of days that the file is available offline. When revoking a file that has been shared using the Azure Information Protection client and with custom permissions, the following notice is displayed in the Track and Revoke portal.

Is it advisable to use both clients or is there any other way?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Yes it is. In reality the real underlying client is the same. The rebranding of things has made it a bit confusing, but this is an added feature for the "Sharing Application" right now. If your using templates you can't really apply a right that gives the creator the revoke right. Its absolutely fine to use the sharing app for features like this but user education can be a problematic.

  • That's exactly the issue. I'm hoping that this is migrated to the new client in the future since it's a pretty important feature for custom permissions and external sharing.

    Thanks for the clarification

  • If this feature is important to you, I encourage you to let the engineering team know directly - post to their Yammer site or use the "Send Us Feedback" link in the client itself to send an email (from your Office app: Protect > Help and Feedback).
