One of three identical servers not downloading OS updates RRS feed

    I have three identical Dell PowerEdge T320 servers running Server 2012 R2.  Two of them download all updates without a problem; the third will only download non-OS updates -- it's like WSUS doesn't even recognize it as HAVING an OS.  Can anyone surmise what's gone wrong and how I can fix it?

    Hi,

    Have you examined the WindowsUpdates.log on the client?  Maybe it can give us some clues.

    Please also check the registry settings in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate and the sub key "WUServer".

    Thanks for getting back to me.  The registry entries are identical for both the problem machine and an identical machine, so that can't be the issue.  I've got the windows update logs for both machines compressed into a zip file.  Is it possible that you could take a quick look at them and see if it's something obvious?  If so, how can I get it to you?

    Try checking the registry entries at this location

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate

    Look for the SusClientId, if you have identical ID's that could be an issue.

    The number is different between the two machines.  Just a thought, but couldn't the problem be on the SQL end, which would make any attempt to fix it on the client end futile?  Is there a way of checking what kind of machine SQL thinks this unit is?
