Multiple CM 2007 into 1 2012 Primary site RRS feed

  • Question

  • Our current archetexture includes multuple primaries under a centeral site in 2007 r2. Based on the organizational structure, and enhancments to Primary sites and DPs in 2012, I would like to simplify everything to one primary site. Is that doable? Can I migrate the centeral and all of the primaries into a single 2012 Primary site?

  • Absolutely yes, and you should as well...

SCCM 2012 was designed/built for having a single primary in the first place... (even though you can extend to more sites if you have more than 100.000 clients).

In my last two migration projects we migrated several CM 2007 primaries (with a hierarchy) to a single CM 2012 primary (no hiearchy).

  • Yes, I echo Johan's statements and can't stress this enough, having a single primary site in ConfigMgr 2012 is preferred and highly recommended (unless you find a real technical reason not to have one which there truly only is one: 100,000+ clients). A primary site in 2007 is not the same thing or used for the same thing as a primary site in 2012.
