RDB Security by Project RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm trying to allow users to do their own reporting (sort of self-service BI) outside of Project, preferably in Excel.  They need to access the data for only 1 projet out of the many projects found in our Project Server implementation.  I thought of given them access to the reporting database (RDB) but seem unable to allow them to see only the data for their specific project and not all of the database.

    Is this possible ?

Is this the best way to do it ?

    Thanks !

  • Marc,

The Project Server Security model does not extend to SQL RDB.. One way I have used to enable controlled self-service reporting is to create views by departments or groups, and then give permissions to the specified users/AD groups to those views. That way thye can only see project that belong to their own department/group.

I understand you want to get even more granulat, just suggesting this could be one method, with modifications.
