Space requirement for secondary DPM 2010 Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Scenario:

Two primary DPM 2010 servers protecting various data and storing short term backups to SAN. DPM Servers using local SQL instances. One use 2 TB to store short term backups and one use 5 TB to store short term backups to SAN volume.

    Question:

When setting up the disaster recovery server, do I need to allocate 5+2 GB of SAN space to replicate all protected short term data?

Or do you present the same volumes to the disaster recovery server and use the same data?

    Regards,

  • hi,

if secondary DPM server (DR) uses the same retention period it is roughly 5+2TB.
If say primary uses 14 days retention and secondary 7 days, it would need 50% of 7TB, if secondary uses 3-days or less it would need 25% of 7TB. Better estimates can be done using the DPM storage calculators.
