SharePoint Hosted App and SQL Azure

    Question

  • Hi ,

I have below scenario for your suggestion -

    • we are using Office 365 sharepoint online.
    • SharePoint list exceeding twenty thousand (20,000) plus
    • SharePoint hosted app is very slow on query the list due to threshold limit of 5000.
    • Is there any option to save the record into SQL Azure DB rather than saving into SPList?
    • If yes – what would be the steps?

     Thanks

  • What subscription level of Office 365 are you using?

    If you are using:

    • Office 365 Business Essentials
    • Office 365 Business Premium
    • Office 365 Enterprise/Education/Government E1
    • Office 365 Enterprise/Education/Government E3
    • Office 365 Enterprise/Education/Government E4
    • Office 365 Enterprise/Government K1

Then you have the ability to use "Access Services" - which creates a SQL Azure database and connects it to your SharePoint site.   Not only can you store more than 20,000 items - you can actually connect to this database using other tools, and even via BCS/External List.

Note - you do need Microsoft Access 2013 to do the initial database schema, form and query design - but your users only need a browser...
