.exe files will not run and unable to find d3d9.dll errors RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have recently had trouble with exe files opening and if I attempt to open a game file I receive the message:

    cannot find d3d9.dll

What is happening?! I am running dx11 on Windows 7 Home Premium and would really like to be open many programs that I use daily. None of them work though. WHY?!

Thanks for any advice you can offer

  • Hi,

Try to use SFC command first to check if this issue can be repaired:

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

  • Probably an issue with file association in the registry.

Try adding this to the registry and see if it helps, It fixes the associations and CLSIDs in the registry. Just double click to run.

Edit: If that works, run this afterwards http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/fixexec/ this will scan all other CLSIDs and repair them if it detects an error.
