Lync New Enterprise Pool ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I have a lync 2013 enterprise setup with 2 FE servers in a single Ent pool. After successful pilot testing we need to enable the production services and enable 12000 users with Lync Services. Half of these 12,000 users would need just IM/Presence and other half would need A/V meeting & Conference. We are planning to add 2 more servers. Would like some suggestion whether to create a new Ent Pool for A/V enabled users or just add 2 additional servers in the existing Pool and control A/V enabling via policy ?

    Thanks

  • Hi

The front end servers will be fine to use all modalities in the same pool. Creating a new pool would just over complicate your deployment while providing no real benefit for end users.

In addition, it is recommended that enterprise edition is installed with a minimum of three front end servers in order to use Windows Fabric properly for HA purposes. Using two servers is not recommended, though supported. So in adding more servers to your pool, you will actually improve your deployment.

For 12,000 users only three servers are required, though can understand the reason for four to give you an overhead.

    thanks

  • Hi Gautam1982,

Welcome to post in our forum.

Agree with Mark, you’d better add 2 additional servers in the existing Pool because it is simple to do and at the same time, it will meet your requirement.

As a supplement, you could add the 2 additional server in the existing pool by the following steps:

1.Start by opening the Lync Topology builder and download the current topology.

    Navigate to the Enterprise Pool

2.Right click the Enterprise Pool and Select New Server

3.Click Yes to the below prompt which tells you that after adding more frontend servers you will need to restart all frontend servers one at a time.

4.Type the name of the second frontend server and select OK

    5.Add the third Frontend server

6.Right click Lync Server at the top and select Publish Topology

    7.Click Next

8.Click Finish (the warning is related to the DFS file store and can be ignored)

Hope this reply helpful to you. Have a nice day.
