SharePoint Online Features

  • Hi,

Our company have medium level SharePoint 2010 intranet portal and now management planning to move to SharePoint Online.

In our intranet portal maximum we used document libraries, Custom Visual webparts, Infopath forms, Timerjobs, Event receivers,

    Designer workflows and Search.

Before going to migration process, what steps need to take. All the above sharepoint 2010 technical features will work in sharepoint online.

Our company have Office 365 E1 plan.

Please guide me how to move forward with pre migration steps and post migration steps.

    Thanking You, Nagendra.

  • Hi Nagendra,

In Sharepoint 2013 online they deprecated custom visual webparts instead of this you can use JSOM with NCSS (NO code sandboxed solutions).

Timejob is not available in sharePoint online instead of timerjob you need to take anyother workaround.

Document libraries are available by default so u can use it.

Custom code u (Server object model) cant use in sp online so event receiver also not possible in SP online 2013. you can use remote event receivers to achieve this. Remote event receiver is available in provider hosted apps.

  • Hi Kaviya,

    Thanks for your reply.

I need more information regarding migration process.

    • What are the initial steps need to take before start the migration.
    • What are the key elements to focus in the existing sharepoint 2010 environment  and sharepoint online for analysis.
    • After migration how to check whether everything moved correctly or not, we have any tool for checking.

    Thanking You, Nagendra.
