Phrase search RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am conducting a phrase search with FAST for sharepoint 2010.

The problem is that some of the hits do not contain the entire phrase but only part of those results the teaser is not highlighted in bold which i assume is because the search engine returns a static teaser and not a dynamic one.

example: i search for the term "IT Guide for new employee" (in double quotes) , expecting to receive only hits which contains the whole phrase , but insread i get results which only part of the phrase appear in the result like : "Guide for new employee" , employees and so on..

isn't the whole purpose of phrase search to return only documents having the entire phrase in its title or body?

  • Is this via the SharePoint search page or the API?

  • Ariel,

Your expectation is correct? i.e. the whole phrase "IT Guide for new employee" is expected to be present in the FIXML of the documents which are served as search results.

Is it correct to assume that you searched for the phrase "IT Guide for new employee" in the search result documents and you did not find the phrase in the document or its meta data?

Secondly, did you get a chance to look for the phrase in the FIXML of the search result document? Sometimes the phrase may occur in anchor texts (i.e. text from the links to this result document) which are indexed as a part of the document. Hence you may not find the phrase in the document or its immediate meta data. However the links to the document may have this phrase (which is likely to be discovered by reviewing the FIXML).

You may use the scipt located here to review the FIXML for an indexed document.

    Good luck!!!
