How to disable a sound card in Windows Vista operating system RRS feed

    Can any one help me out by please providing steps on how to disable a sound card in Windows Vista operating system.

    Thanks for your post!


    If you want to temporarily disable the sound card from Windows side, please follow steps below:


    1.    Click Start;

    2.    Click Run, type devmgmt.msc to enter Device Manager;

    3.    Expand Sound, video and game controller, right-click the audio card your want to disable, then select Disable.


    If you want to disable audio card from BIOS, it is not a Windows Vista issue. Please contact the manufacturer of the motherboard or audio card to finish it.

    Just for your reference, if you want to disable integrated audio card from BIOS, you may use following steps:

    1.    Restart the computer.

    2.    When the prompt of entering BIOS displays, press the key to enter BIOS settings. (Usually DEL or F2).

    3.    Under Advanced Chipset Options or something similar, you can find the option to disable the audio card.

    If you want to disable the audio card in order to use another one, I highly suggest you to contact the motherboard manufacturer for help.
