New Windows Server 2012 Cluster MP Dependencies? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm getting an error message when importing the new Windows Server 2012 Cluster MP's, both from the catalogue and from disk. "Missing dependent management packs: Microsoft.Windows.Cluster.Library version 6.0.6278.0". Does this MP still exist?

  • Hello,

Did you import Microsoft.Windows.Cluster.Management.Library.mp in the same download file? Displayed as “Windows Cluster Management Library”, this is the base library. It contains definitions specific to the Windows Cluster Management.

Besides, Microsoft.Windows.Cluster.Management.Monitoring.mp, displayed as “Windows Cluster Management Monitoring,” this management pack implements general monitoring and views.

If you have installed the Windows Server 2003 Cluster Management Pack 6.0.6277.0, remove the following management pack files prior to importing this management pack:

    • Microsoft.Windows.2003.Cluster.Management.Monitoring
    • Microsoft.Windows.2003.Cluster.Management.Library
    • Microsoft.Windows.Cluster.Management.Monitoring
    • Microsoft.Windows.Cluster.Management.Library

  • Hi Yog Li,

    Many thanks for your post.

So ‘Microsoft.Windows.Cluster.Management.Library.mp’ is the base management pack and is not dependent on anything else. Have I got that right? I tried importing just that management pack into OM again by its self, and still got the above error message.

Windows Server 2003 Cluster Management Pack was never installed, as we have never had a 2003 cluster. Was monitoring a Windows 2008 cluster before the new cluster management packs appeared. However, I’d removed the Windows 2008 cluster management packs, after migrating the cluster to Windows 2012 and before attempting to install the new Windows 2012 cluster management packs.

I’d be interested to know if anyone else has installed this management pack, if they got the same error message, or whether it’s just our OM 2012 system.

    Kind Regards,

  • Hi Yog,

You can try to import the Mp using Install-ManagementPack –filepath <path of the file> from scom powershell. The output will give exact issue in importing the MP.

  • Hi Sridhar,

Microsoft seem to have changed the command to install management packs from Powershell for Operations Manager 2012. Install-ManagementPack no longer exists, instead we have Import-SCOMManagementPack (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh920193.aspx).

Anyway, ran the Import command as follows, with Verbose mode, and got only the below:

    PS C:\> Import-SCOMManagementPack "C:\Management Packs\Cluster\Microsoft.Windows.Cluster.Management.Library.mp" -Verbose

VERBOSE: Performing operation "Import-SCManagementPack" on Target "Microsoft.Windows.Cluster.Management.Library".
Import-SCOMManagementPack : The requested management pack is not valid. See inner exception for details.
    Parameter name: managementPack
    At line:1 char:1
    + Import-SCOMManagementPack "C:\Management Packs\Cluster\Microsoft.Windows.Cluster ...
    + ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        + CategoryInfo          : InvalidResult: (C:\Management P...ment.Library.mp:FileInfo) [Import-SCManagementPack], ArgumentException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : Failed to import management pack from file Microsoft.Windows.Cluster.Management.Library.mp,Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Core.Cmdlets.ImportSCSMManagementPackCommand

This doesn't seem to tell us anything more than we already know. Is there a way to find out more detail?
