DPM 2010 - DCOM errors and agent communication issues RRS feed

  • Question

  • Greetings all,

For starters I'm working with a single DPM server and 8 protected systems. Up until yesterday everything had been working fine. Yesterday DPM would not connect to any of the protected computers, but after restarting the computers it seems that it can communicate with 4 of the 8 agents. The DPM manager system is showing event 10009 DCOM errors, and that is all I am able to find. Ping, tracert, net view, and sc all have been run and show no issues as far as I can tell. However, when I do a ping of the FQDN for the servers that I'm having trouble with, it fails. What is the next step?

    Thanks.

Answers

  • Hi

First, have you made any network changes etc?

Second, verify your DNS configuration on the troubled servers.

Third, on the "faulty" servers run setdpmserver -dpmservername DPMSERVERNAME to configure your DPM agent.

Please post any information regarding your progress.

  • I'm still unsure what happened but after resetting the DNS server and flushing the DNS cache on the troubled servers I was able to get things working again.

    Thanks Robert.

  • Hi jet8300,

Since DPM depends on DNS your servers that went "faulty" could not perform name-resolution that is why you recived the error.
