How to upgrade Windows 8.1 to Windows 10?

Question
-
I had an Acer Aspire E 15 Windows 10 Home system that had problems couldn't be fixed as reported on https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/win10itprogeneral/thread/1faafabe-33d8-4985-b4b3-7566853da1ba/#8a3216ca-3764-4eda-acf4-3a56ec47d7f6 and https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/win10itprogeneral/thread/2d0e09b6-cf62-465c-b0b3-8db11d21554a/#14ab88ce-c049-4c53-816d-7a4001acfa3b.
I restored to factory settings. The system recovered found to be a Windows 8 system, Version 6.3 Build 9600.
Now how can I upgrade it to Windows 10 Home which I had paid and bought for.

You can reinstall the same edition of Windows 10 on the same PC without requiring to enter a product key. While reinstalling Windows 10, if you see a prompt asking to enter the product key, simply click the Skip option. Windows 10 will automatically activate once you connect your PC to online after completing the installation.

Thanks!
I have been trying to find the ISO file to download, but your link seems to be going round and round. Could you please give me a direct link.
I can only see Windows 10 insider preview build on your web page. I only want a Windows 10 Home 64 bits which was what I bought and paid for. By the way, would this upgrade be free?

Hi healee,
You can get the ISO file from here:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/software-download/windows10ISO
But the Windows 10 free upgrade through the Get Windows 10 (GWX) app ended on July 29, 2016.

Sylvia

The laptop I'm referring to was A Windows 10 Home system I bought and paid for.
Owing to two problems I mentioned in the first post I restored the computer to factory settings. Now what I've got is a Windows 8.1 system. Before I did the restore, I copied down the Windows 10 product key code.
Can I download and upgrade to Windows 10 on the same computer with the same product key code?

How can I directly download the ISO file without going through the download tool or creating installation media at the same time? Owing to local lock-down due to pandemic I have problem with downloading big file.
Could downloading this big file be done in a few sessions? I guess Windows update download can download a file in a few sessions. I wonder if the ISO file can be done the same way.

Excuse me. Owing to limited time available for download I need to ask a few specific questions before I start.
Does the media creation tool download the Windows 10 file and make a system bootable DVD at the same time? Can the download of the Windows 10 file be done in a few separate sessions using the tool, i.e. paused and resumed a few times? Can the Windows 10 file download and the media creation be done in separate occasions using the tool?
Thank you!
Monday, July 6, 2020 9:58 AM -
yes, media creation tool can create a bootable windows installation media. just insert your usb drive and choose the first option.
Best regards.

Could the download be interrupted and resumed a few times?Wednesday, July 8, 2020 2:56 AM

Hi healee,
Unfortunately the ISO download option does *not* allow for interrupted downloads; you have to start over from the beginning.

Sylvia

I've downloaded the Windows 10 file with the media creation toll and then with the Internet turned off upgraded the computer. During the process and thereafter, no product code was asked. Now I looked up the Activation under Settings, it doesn't say the Windows 10 system has been activated.
Is the upgraded system valid and legal? Shall I activate it?

I don't have problem activating the Windows 10.
What I'm asking if I should or need to and if my way of upgrading is legal and valid.
Please read my first post on the top.
