Microsoft$DPM$Acct and Microsoft$DPM$Agent RRS feed

  • Question

  • In my environment the DPM Server install always fails if I don't have these two users added into local Administrators group.

I don't know if this is a product requirement from DPM 2010... but this is always the case that DPM would never install until these two users have been made as Administrators.

    Could you confirm/deny this?

Also is there any way to troubleshoot this?

  • DPM needs to be run in administrator context.

    So that:

    1.  The backup and restore can be done irrespective of different user's acls on files.
    2.  Create system wide operations like creating journals, creating volumes etc, that can be done from admins only.
    3.  Communicate with DpmFilter driver that is used for changed block tracking.
    Etc... there are many more.
