Silently uninstall Skype for Business from Office Pro Plus 2016 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We're migrating to Teams so we need a way to silently uninstall Skype for Business. The problem we're having is that Skype for Business was installed with Office Pro Plus 2016. I'm looking for a way to silently uninstall SfB w/o having to reinstall Office. We can use ConfigMgr to roll this out.

Has anyone else run into this?

  • Hi Carltonw1,

I’m afraid that you can’t silently uninstall Skype for Business from Office Pro Plus 2016. According to the official document, if you are using Office 365 Skype for Business, you can’t delete it from your computer without also uninstalling the rest of the Office suite. This is because it’s integrated with the other Office apps. For more details, you can refer to this link: https://support.office.com/en-gb/article/Uninstall-Skype-for-Business-28c4a036-7f22-406c-b7f4-87894cbaf902.

In fact, you don’t need to worry about this. After you upgrade to Microsoft Teams (Teams Only mode), the Skype for Business client is disabled, and all chat and calls go to Teams. This article gives you a detailed instruction. You can learn more from it: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/MicrosoftTeams/upgrade-basic.
