WSUS Console does not show anything RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I just set up a new WSUS on my domain, I used the Server Manger to install it and all seemed to install without issue, but when I open the WSUS Console I get the following screen:

I already checked the eventvwr and found the following errors:

I found multiple forum entries on the problem concerning permission issues I used the following MS article and checked and set the permissions according to it, but the problem still persists:

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/512.troubleshooting-guide-for-issues-where-wsus-clients-are-not-reporting-in.aspx

Can someone help me with this issue.

    Thanks ion advance

  • Hi,

wsus mainly consist of webservices. the events show that multiple of these webservices are not functional.

The webservices run under IIS. Is IIS installed and started? Do you see the servcies listed in IIS manager?

Does event log show errors related to IIS?

  • Hello,

the IIS was installed with the WSUS installation and the website is online.

Where should I see the services? Where do  I see that they are running?

The eventvwr does not show any errors related to IIS.

  • Hello,

I completely reinstalled the WSUS, but still no change, but thanks for the link.

I also set up the WSUS with a SQL Server, but the problem is still the same.

    Hope someone has any idea.

  • I just set up a new WSUS on my domain, I used the Server Manger to install it and all seemed to install without issue, but when I open the WSUS Console I get the following screen:

So, the first issue is using the standalone console, when you should be using SERVER MANAGER to manage WSUS on a Window Server 2008 or later system -- which addresses the SUBJECT of "WSUS console doesn't show anything".

But even then, just "Connect to Server" and be done with it.

If the connection fails...well... as for the Event Log entries... the most common cause for this is that somebody has manually "reconfigured" the WSUS installation after it was installed, and the WSUS server is no longer where it's supposed to be, and thus the WSUS Health Monitoring Service (HMS) cannot find the WSUS server; which likely would also impact the ability of the console to connect.

  • Hello,

the Server Manager just uses the same snapin as the standalone console, I tried this as well and the problem is the same.

Also I am not able to use the "Connect to Server" function, when I try to connect I get the error that there is no WSUS on the port 8530. But the IIS shows that this is the right port. Same is with the SSL connection on port 8531.

As to your suggestion that the WSUS has been reconfigured, this can not be, as there was no WSUS installed before on the system or even on this site.

    Regards

    Paul

  • the Server Manager just uses the same snapin as the standalone console, I tried this as well and the problem is the same.

Well, actually, the Server Manager snapin *automatically* connects to the installed instance of WSUS, whereas the standlone console requires you to connect to the proper instance of WSUS. If the Server Manager console doesn't connect, then I'd say your installation failed.

when I try to connect I get the error that there is no WSUS on the port 8530.

Point #2.... unless this is a WSUS v3 server on WS2008R2 or earlier, in which case you may be looking on the wrong port.

  • WSUS is configured for port 8530 I was asked that in the installation and I verified it with the IIS console, which shows that the WSUS runs on port 8530 and 8531.

    So it should work.
