External email delay to a DL but fine to an individual recipient RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have an user reported about an issue regarding an external email delay. Upon further header analysis, it was found that email delivered fine to the individual recipients on that email chain and got delayed for almost 2 hours only to those members who are part of a DL. We checked other external emails to that DL and those were found to be delivered on time.

So only one external email for now:

Same email delivered fine to all recipients except members to a DL

Other external emails to that DL went through fine

    Where do i start with?

  • Hi,

As Sneff_Gabor said, email is delayed at which step? Does it delayed between your server and this sender server? You can check it from EXRCA.

If this email is delayed on your server, you can used command below to check it:

    Get-TransportService | Get-MessageTrackingLog -Sender user@external.com -MessageSubject "xxxx"| sort-object Timestamp

You will see detail mail flow for this email that send to this group. You can check this email is delayed at which steps.

  • The delay happened between our email gateway server to our email exchange server only to those members part of the DL. Same email wasn't delayed to those who weren't part of DL. Ran the command and found the email delay is between HADISCARD and HAREDIRECT and so something like below for same email:

    HADISCARD 11AM

HAREDIRECT 12:58PM   Queued mail for redundancy

The source context for the delayed one column also states queued for redundancy. email queues were fine.

  • HADISCARD is related with Shadow redundancy, you can try to disable it temporary, then check whether is this phenomenon gone.

    Set-TransportConfig -ShadowRedundancyEnabled $false

Since this phenomenon only occurs on this group, I would suggest you create a new group to replace it directly.
