SCCM Client icon showing question mark and Gray X. RRS feed

  • Question

  • i did some research on this. i could not find one that help my particular situation.

Issue #1. most of the logs mentioned in the articles were not present on either the client or server site. the clients with question mark icon, usually do not have all the files in ccmsetup folder. Configuration manger in control panel also do not have all the required tabs.

Issue #2 the clients with Gray X icon are usually off and when they are turn back on they show that sign for a long time.

Please if any one have reference article for client deployment or video tutorial. by the way search the web but most them do not have issues during client installation so i cannot learned from them.

    Thank YOU

  • 1# Can you confirm if they're pointing to the right management point?

2# have you tried right clicking on the client and approve?

  • Hi,

    Is it a joined-domain computer?

To make sure that the client was installed successfully, check the ccmsetup.log file. Then you can check under C:\Windows\CCM\Logs the following log files:

    • ClientLocation.log
    • LocationServices.log

By default, the client updates its policy every 60 minutes, check it under Administration > Client Settings:

Make sure also under Administration > Site Configuration > Sites > Hierarchy Settings, that the following two options are selected.

    Regards,

  • Hi,

What method did you try to install the client agent?
A question mark appears when the client agent is installed but no data is available. Do you get an option to manually approve the client when you right click them?

Here is the vedio for SCCM Client installation Troubleshooting(Third-party link, just for your reference):

And the vedio to install the client manually(Third-party link, just for your reference):

  • What about CCM notification agent component under the SCCM client?

What is the components status of your ConfigMgr? Check out in Monitoring > System Status > Component Status.
