Drop rule for emails with header "Disposition: automatic-action/MDN-sent-automatically; deleted"

    Question

  • Hello,

I try to configure a transport rule to drop automatically generated emails with subject "Not read: ...". All these mails have a specific email header "Disposition: automatic-action/MDN-sent-automatically; deleted". Here I find a simple rule (http://www.msxfaq.de/admin/ungelesengeloescht.htm) but it will not work in my Exchange 2010 environment.

    Conditions:

    Apply rule to messages

when the 'Disposition' contains 'automatic-action/MDN-sent-automatically; deleted'

Delete the message without notifying anyone.

    Thanks for any ideas.

  • I analyze the source of these "Not read:" emails and I cannot find the"Disposition: automatic-action/MDN-sent-automatically; deleted" header. It is not a real header:

    report-type=disposition-notification MIME-Version: 1.0

    Content-Type: message/disposition-notification

    Disposition: automatic-action/MDN-sent-automatically; displayed

Thats the reason why my rule don't work.

Here I found some more informations about read receipts: http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2011/02/23/3412028.aspx

So I build this (working) rule:

    Apply rule to messages

when the Subject field contains 'Not read:'

and if the message type is 'Read receipt'

Delete the message without notifying anyone

    Best regards

  • Hi Decker99,

Try this to check whether it works:

    Apply rule to messages

    When the ‘Disposition’ contains ‘automatic-action/MDN-sent-automatically’

Delete the message without notifying anyone

    Thanks,

  • Hello Evan,

I have configured some simple rules but they will not work:

    When the 'Disposition' contains 'automatic-action/MDN-sent-automatically'

    or

    When the 'Disposition' contains 'deleted'

My next turn was a rule with the condition "when the message header matches text patterns":

    Apply rule to messages

    when the 'Disposition' matches 'automatic*deleted*'

Delete the message without notifying anyone.

    No success.

    Best regards

  • Hi decker99,

Is there any other key words in these messages or Message Header?

If you create other rule to work on these emails, will it work?

    Thanks,

    Evan
