MDT 2013 Update 1 : Successfully created image of drive C: (not really!) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Environment: MDT 2013 Update 1 + Windows 7 Enterprise x64

    Hi there,

    Since the upgrade of my Deployment Shares through the new MDT 2013 Update 1, I'm not able to Deploy and Capture an image. I need to specify that I re-created all my Task Sequences. What I do is:

    1. Boot to MDT in PXE
    2. Select a Task Sequence
    3. Select Capture

    Then, all the processes run and finish with success. But, in my Captures folder, I see my WIM file with 2 KB size. According to the BDD.log file below, everything looks good, so I have no idea what's going wrong.

  • From your logs:

    Computer backup bypassed (ComputerBackupLocation="" ZTIBackup 10/22/2015 8:51:33 AM 0 (0x0000)

    You need to make sure the properties are set correctly.  Something like:

    ComputerBackupLocation=\\server\share

    Logs are very important. If you are unsure how to post logs or where to find them then reference https://keithga.wordpress.com/2014/10/24/video-mdt-2013-log-files-basics-bdd-log-and-smsts-log/ Also if you have made customizations please mention them when asking for help.

  • Hi there,

    I have some news to communicate. I noticed an issue when the SkipCapture is set to YES and DoCapture=YES in the CustomSettings.ini.

    I noticed two weired effects:

    1) With my DP for Windows 7, there is a WIM file with 2 KB created inside the Captures folder.

    2) With my DP for Windows 10, there isn't any WIM file created inside the Captures folder.

    If I change those settings to:
    SkipCapture=NO
    DoCapture=YES

    and just press NEXT during the Wizard, the WIM file is created with success in both cases.

    Thus, it's as if the SkipCapture=YES bypassed the DoCapture=YES setting in part because it creates a WIM file for the Windows 7 DP but nothing for the Windows 10 DP.

  • Can you post the entire BDD.log?

    Also can you verify your share and file permissions?

  • Hi there,

    Here is my BDD.LOG: http://we.tl/I2I6XepNN9

    Regarding my share and file permissions:

    NTFS : my MDT user is READ/WRITE/MODIFY on the entire DP Folder.

    SHARE : CREATOR OWNER + MDT user + Domain Admins = Full Control

  • I believe when deploymentshare is updated with new version , it will change the customsetting files to defualt so u need to have the backup before updation.
