When to use WSUS and Uninstalling from SBS 2011

-
So we have a small business with about 40 windows machines, and our SUSDB (used by WSUS) database has been corrupted since January. I've been looking into this issue and I was going to either run a repair or reinstall from scratch. But then I was thinking that maybe WSUS is not a necessity because there is such a few number of computers. The WSUS basically came with the SBS 2011 server but now I'm thinking it's not a necessity.
If I decide to reinstall the WSUS role, how would this affect the SBS Console and such. Oh and the SBS is messed up as well....the SBSMonitoring service is missing for some reason....I just started working here so I have no clue about their history and I'm the only tech here.

If I remove WSUS will it remove the Internal Database or just the SUSDB database?
It will not remove the database service, only the WSUS database (SUSDB).

Hi
You can uninstall and reinstall WSUS, you can remove the old catalogue and let it sync all the updates again. Depending on your link this may take a while.
The nice thing is you can control windows updates from a central point and you can ensure that all machines are on the correct patch levels.
I would first look at repairing your SBS server and then focusing on WSUS.
Hope this helps. Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.
