Multiple currencies in Project Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

As we know we can have one currency at a time in Project Server what are the ways followed when below scenario needs to be achieved:

    1. Few projects in one currency and few in other

    2. Few resources with standard rate in one currency and few in other currency

  • Hi Abhijeet,

Each project can have it's own currency, as defined in the MS Project options.  In terms of resources, this is more difficult.  I would create a custom resource field that displays the currency type (USD, GBP etc) and just hold the actual rate in Project Server for each resource.  In terms of getting the true cost of a project/programme/portfolio, with different currencies, then this is something which is going to be a manual job or done via some fancy reporting taking into account the currency types and conversion rates (which would need to be held somewhere or referenced via the web during report creation)

  • Thanks a lot Ben.

    Appreciate your views.

I think we have also evolved with same thoughts that it will need to be managed more as a reporting solution in terms of data showcase in multiple currencies using custom solution.

  • Thank you for your help.

This works great, unless you mix resources on a project with different currency's... It's correct as long as you work your project in the server currency, but incorrect when you work in a non server currency.

    Server Currency: NOK

    • PM 1: 1000NOK
    • PM 2: 100 USD

    Project Currency USD

    • PM1: 1000NOK
    • PM2: 100USD

However, It works great if you work in the server currency  :)

Does that make sense and are there way's around this?
