Hi Weemanply,
Thank you for writing to Microsoft Answers Community Forums.
This problem occurs if the Windows Media Center update process (Mcupdate.exe) cannot access the Windows Media Center data store. You may experience this problem if the data store is damaged. Therefore, try to rebuild the Media Center data store. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Exit any running instance of Windows Media Center.
2. Delete the mediaCenterDataStore.db file. By default, this file is in the following location:
%SYSTEMDRIVE%\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome\mediaCenterDataStore.dbTo delete the file, follow these steps:
a. Click Start , and then click Run .
b. In the Open box, type run , and then click OK.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue .
c. In the Open box, type %systemdrive%\programdata\microsoft\ehome , and then click OK.
d. In the details pane, right-click mediacenterdatastore.db , and then click Delete .
e. Click Yes to confirm that you want to move the Mediacenterdatastore.db file to the recycle Bin.
3. Start Windows Media Center.Hope it helps.

Hello I am having a few problems as well, now the MC will crash if I try to record a show or pre record one. It has given me this error in the event manager and also mcudate.ete error but it also show in the event manager that the guide listing are updated still but it just quit recording the shows a few days ago. I have tried many things to fix it a system restore, scan disk, update and more but nothing seems to work. I have an HP Pavilion m9515y that is new and I have had many problems with the MC in the past but it has been working until a few days ago. I can still watch shows on it ones that were previously recorded and live, but it will not let me record or advanced record with out it crashing. Thank you for any help that you can give me. As most of you know Best Buy where I bought it will not help [it is under warranty, or even HP] they all want to blame each other or the cable service provider or Microsoft so I am stuck to try to fix this on my own.
Oh I had Vista too.
Again Thank youMonday, September 7, 2009 6:02 PM -
I am having the same problem when I tried to access "other music", ie. Vista Media Center crashes every time & the event description is the same as above. I have tried the two suggested solutions above, to no avail. There must be a better explanation and solution to this chronic issue.Tuesday, September 22, 2009 4:58 PM
