What is the memory usage boundary for w3wp.exe worker process RRS feed

  • Question

  • One of the w3wp process uses 2.1G memory.  It is an 64bit server with total 16GB ram.  The overall usage is about 60%.  I was told memory usage for each work process shouldn't be over 2GB. Is that true?

  • There is no general answer to this. Memory consumption is bound to many different factors. I have seen stable farms where the w3wp process was constantly above 6 GB.

  • Hi,

There is no limitations of it. It depends upon your farm and other activities for memory consumption under these scenarios.
