Sync tasks with Project Server 2010 and Sharepoint Site Tasks ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am evaluating Project Server 2010 and have found it confusing with Tasks.

I created a project plan using project client version.  I then saved and published this plan to Project server 2010.  This allowed me o see the plan in project server 2010 and its associated tasks.  It also created a project site that also includes categories for Tasks, Issues, Risks and a calendar.  The issue is, the project site is empty.  The calendar has no entries for project milestones, there is no task list for each user based on the plan's tasks etc etc.

Is my Project and sharepoint server missing some configuration ?

The only way I could sync task to sharepoint from project client, was offline using the send and save option, but once in sharepoint, changes are not reflected in the project server.

    Thanks,

    Ben

  • Hi Ben,

yeap, that can truly be confusing. The task list or calendar list within your project site has not link to the tasks and time you maintain in your schedule. You will need to diffetentiate between the tasks in your project site and your schedule tasks. The reason for this is technology, I am sorry to say. As a user that may not be a satisfactory answer, but since your project site is a SharePoint site there is no correlation between the project server technology and the sharepoint technology (yet :) )

So the short answer to your question is, no you are not missing anything in the configuraiton. It is an education process to your users. If they want to see the list of tasks they have been assigned to, than they will have to navigate to the task link within PWA.

    I hope this helps

  • Hi Ben,

naming in project site is quite confusing. Have a look at http://www.projectserverhelp.com/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=24. It was wrritten for 2007, but it is the same for 2010.

    Hope that helps?

  • Surely there is a way to sync the project site and the plan (gantt chart from the server) together. At least have it pull the plan details over to it....?

If someone has a better work around that would be great! Thanks!

  • Hi All,

I had the same problem and it became a requirement from a client of mine to be able to manage project tasks from the Project Site and synch it with Project Center

I wrote a blog post detailing the steps to achieve this:

    http://oneslashseven.com/sharepoint/how-to-synch-a-task-list-in-a-project-site-with-project-center/

There are a few extra configurations that need to be made, but it will work if it's what you want.

    Hope this helps.

  • It looks like the site is down.

    Is it available elsewhere?

    Thank you.
