Users managing their own quarantine? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Apologies if this is better posted in the Office 365 forums, I've found some mixed answers on the subject so wondered if anyone here could tell me how I can go about doing the following:

Currently we allow users to manage their own spam quarantine with our groupwise system using a 3rd party spam appliance. We get a lot of valid mail trapped in there so I'd like to be able to allow our users to do the same on 365.

How do I go about setting it up so users are able to manage their own FOPE quarantines? I've seen the "allow user access" check box in the config but this doesn't seem to do anything for the user accounts.

Do I need to configure dirsync for FOPE specifically to populate users into the interface so they can manage quarantine? As mentioned here: http://community.office365.com/en-us/wikis/exchange/how-to-set-up-fope-with-office-365-by-using-the-directory-synchronization-tool-for-populating-users-to-enable-directory-based-edge-blocking-and-spam-quarantine-access.aspx

How about spam reports from FOPE? Any way to have FOPE send a daily / weekly etc mail to alert users to the contents of their quarantine??

I've seen mention of allowing FOPE to deliver spammed mail to the junk folder of users mailboxes, would this be a better option? I'm not hugely keen on this as they can still open malware/phishing mail if it ends up here but this is a better option than not letting them manage quarantine at all.

    Many thanks for the assistance!

First of all you have to enable the setting that users can access the quarantine mailbox in the domain settings:

Next thing is the users needs to have a password to access the quarantine.

After that the user should be able to login to the quarantine mailbox.

No, you don't need to use the dirsync utility. You also can create users manually or upload them via textfile.

A better way than giving your users access to their quarantine mailbox would be the daily notification email. In this email there is a link for each quarantined email with which users can release the email out of quarantine.
