KB932596 -- More harm than good? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I haven't had a chance to reverse it out yet but it looks like KB932596 prevents bcdedit set load options from working.  We need this in order to run legacy drivers on Vista x64.  Why did Microsoft release a "patch" that breaks systems?  Why didn't they warn us they were going to remove a feature that is CRITICAL to getting products like VMware Server running?  Why did I get the run around from Microsoft Support?  Will Microsoft fix the bug that KB932596 introduced or are we just SOL?

  • My guess is that the hotfix was supposed to break the permanent driver disable signing.. I've asked the security chief in Microsoft Sweden this question, let's see what he has to say on this issue! I'll get back to you.
