Unable to populate exchange server in DPM while installing Protection agent RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Guys'

I have a setup with Exchange 2010 (HUB\CAS and DC) with 2 DAG Servers with Mailbox role on them, all on Windows 2008 R2. Imstalled DPM on Win 2k3 server. Now when I am trying to add my exchange server to install protection agent, I am unable to see any exchange server in the list. I am able to ping all exchange servers from DPM server.

I am not sure what exactly I am missing here. Please suggest.

  • Hi

Thank you for your kind words regarding my blog =)

    DPM 2007 can't protect exchange 2010. You'll need DPM2010 to achive that.

  • Hi!

Have you sucsessfully installed the DPM agent on your Exchange server? If not try to preform a manual installation. Verify that the agent is reporting back ok to the DPM servern at the Management part / agents tab.

If you have installed the agent, the first thing you should verify is that you have fullfilled all the prerequisite for protecting Exchange 2010 with DPM 2010, note that DPM 2007 isn't able to protect Exchange 2010.

    Prerequisite: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff399140.aspx

If you fullfill all the prerequisite verify that your VSS writer for Exchange is running at a stable state on your Exchange server. To do this, open an elevated command prompt and type vssadmin list writers. You will get a list of all the VSS writers running on the operatingsystem.

Get back with info regarding your progress.

  • Hi Robert,

Thanks, for your useful information. Just wanted to confirm one more thing, is there any way that DPM 2007 can protect Exchange 2010.

I guess this is the issue with my test environment. Hence before making any changes to it, would like to confirm whether there is any patch or update available which can make it work?

Moreover, Nice & educational Blog, looks quite informative.
