DHCP Question scope RRS feed

  • Question

  • Good day all, hopefully someone could help me shed some light on a question I have.

I have a virtual environment that I created being hosted on an iLO. The Host I setup is on a 172.X.x.x network. I created a DHCP server and set it up to hand out addresses on the 10.X.X.X network. When I spin up machines, they are not getting addresses from the server, UNLESS I setup the DHCP server to hand out addresses on the 172.X.X.X network that my host is currently configured to. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your time.

  • In your environment, dou you have VLAN ?

From what i can see, it seems to be a VLAN issue (and maybe a IPHelper as well...)

The network 10.x.x.x must be define in your network switches / router to be able to receive the 10.x.x.x ip address.

Your client is probably in a wrong VLAN.

  • Well I was given this scope, I am not sure if there is a 10.x.x.x network anywhere on the switch, and if so, what VLAN ID it's on. There is no way I could add a VLAN to my virtual switch and start that network "virtually"?
