DHCP Helper Address RRS feed

  • Hi all,

    i have 1  main site and 2 branch offices in one of the branches the router is used to lease IP for the clients now i will configure DHCP on The RODC , the network engineer is asking me to give him the helper address for the new DHCP to add it in the switch


    what is that dress ?

  • You need to give him the IP address for your DHCP server, where you have defined the scopes for the branch offices.

  • Hello,

    a DHCP helper means a DHCP relay agent.

    It is used to forward DHCP requests to another DHCP server that is not in the same subnet as the DHCP client.

    Possible that the network engineer wants to add a DHCP helper so that if your DHCP server is no longer available, it will forwards the DHCP traffic to another DHCP server. If it is the case then it is recommended to use 80 / 20 DHCP rule.
