DPM server agent unable to respond RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm getting this message on a lot of jobs for a DPM server. The message states the DPM server itself isn't responding, not the client I am backing up. I've already tried rebooting the server and I waited a couple hours to restart the jobs. I'm getting this with Hyper-V backups and also file and MSSQL backups so it doesn't seem to matter which type. There are other jobs that are running successfully however. Even some database jobs on the same SQL server that has failures. Resources on the DPM server look good, plenty of disk space, RAM, and CPU. Running DPM 2012 w/ SP1. Latest rollup and hotfixes have been applied.

Starting synchronization on \Backup Using Child Partition Snapshot\redacted failed:

Error 60: The protection agent on redacted.redacted.local was temporarily unable to respond because it was in an unexpected state.

Error details: Internal error code: 0x809909B0

    Recommended action: Retry the operation.

  • I'm still seeing it too. I believe it may be related to the number of jobs I have. I'm taking out all my SQL servers that I was backing up by agent to remove a lot of jobs. If those jobs are not running I seem to be able to re-run the failed ones successfully. I haven't fully tested.

I'm seeing the actual service crashes in the event log. I pinged MS about it as well.

  • Did you get any update from MS? I'm seeing hundreds of crash files piling up in the temp directory and of course new entries in the application log every couple minutes.

  • No, I upgraded to R2, upgraded all agents, and that solved the crashing issues. Still working on jobs failing. Back to the normal VSS had a retryable error issues. We're doing host level backups.

  • Thanks... I guess I'll look into what R2 can do (and can't do) and decide when to upgrade.
