Migrating SCCM 2012 R2 from a 2008 R2 Server to a 2012 R2 Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All

We have a single server install SCCM 2012 R2 (SQL all hosted on same box) currently residing on a 2008 R2 Server. We want to migrate this role to a new 2012 R2 Server, but need guidance on the best practice for doing so.

The SQL Instance is also 2008 R2 on the original box, but ideally we'd like to upgrade this to either 2012 R2 or 2014 if possible as well.

Should we aim for a migration, or a rebuild for what we want to achieve?

    Cheers

  • The only supported way is: backup ConfigMgr (and all stuff that's not covered by the backup automatically), install the new OS and restore ConfigMgr. You have to keep the server name, partition layout etc

  • Thanks. Do I need to keep the same version of SQL or can that too be upgraded?
