SharePoint Explorer View not updating via FPRPC on 64-Bit Server 2003 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are using SharePoint with users connecting via Citrix XenApp/Terminal Services on Windows Server 2003 R2.

We orginally had 32-bit servers and all was ok.

We're upgrading to 64-bit servers with the exact same configuration but have come across this 'quirky' issue we cannot get to the bottom of.

When in SharePoint and switched to "Explorer View" if a change is made to content (file rename, add, delete etc.) on the 64-bit servers the view does not update with the change until the Browser Refresh button is manually pressed. On the 32-bit servers the view updates automatically once the change is actioned by the user (no refresh is required).

This happens for same user, same SharePoint site, same content. So it doesn't seem to be SharePoint or site related but something on the 64-Bit servers.

    Config is:
    Windows Server 2003 R2 SP3
    Citrix XenApp v4.5 HFRP06
    Internet Explorer 7
    Microsoft Office 2007 SP2

We've check all file versions referred to in KB907306 and they are the same on both servers.

    Any Ideas?

  • Hi,

As far as I know, “Open with Windows Explorer” option of SharePoint  only works for the 32-bit system.

The reason is that Web DAV functionality is provided natively by Web Client Service and extended by the Office installation of Microsoft Data Access Internet Publishing Provider(MSDAIPP). Since MSDAIPP is only 32-bit, it cannot be used by 64 bit Internet Explorer.

Please shift back to 32-bit if you use 64 bit IE, then test again.

We are not using the Web Client Service (this is disabled on our servers) we are using Frontpage RPC (FPRPC) "WebFolders" as in the question title.

We are using 32-bit IE and NOT 64-bit IE as you stated earlier 64-bit IE does not support "Explorer View" via FPRPC.

All works fine except on 64-bit the browser must be manually refreshed to see any content changes but on 32-bit the refresh happens automatically when content changed is completed (e.g. new file paste into window)

I'm sure this is a Windows Explorer setting somewhere but can't figure it.
