Email protection through FCS and Security Essentials RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I've read that FCS does not scan email archives, so I wonder if my email clients, Thunderbird or Outlook 2007 (not connected to any internal Exchange server, but using .pst files to archive email), will be protected against any malware.

Moreover, FCS acts on the Application layer? In othe words, will the malware be discovered while transmitting messages or just while opening file attachments?

I'd also like to know if Microsoft Security Essential is basically the same as FCS (except for central management, of course).

Any suggestions to protect from malicious email messages by using FCS or Security Essentials are welcome.

    Thanks,

    Stefano
