Connect "Project Tasks" List's Calendar View to Outlook RRS feed

  • Question

  • I would like to connect our department's "Project Tasks"-type list to an Outlook calendar (the same way I can do with a "Calendar"-type list).

In Sharepoint, I have a nice "Calendar View" (this is a Sharepoint View/Report using the "Calendar" format) of the "Project Tasks"-type List items showing which items were worked on in the past or are to be worked on in the future.  I would like to Connect this view to Outlook, but it appears this "Project Tasks"-type list does not have the "Connect to Outlook" option in the ACTIONS menu.

I have confirmed that the "Connect to Outlook" option is activated in our "Enable Client Integration" settings per thread ((http://www.eggheadcafe.com/community/aspnet/69/10091824/cannot-see-connect-to-outlook-in-the-actions.aspx).  In fact, if I create a strict "Calendar"-type list (instead of a "Project Tasks"-type list or "Issue Tracking"-type list), I do get the "Connect to Outlook" option in the ACTIONS menu.  I'd like to know how to effectively share or connect this Project Tracking / Issue Tracking type list to Outlook.

(We are running Sharepoint 2007 with Sharepoint Services 3.0.)

FYI:  Good post on how to connect a Sharepoint list to Outlook:  http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/0858a581-6121-499b-bd5f-52eb55037a3a.  This is what is NOT working for my Project Tasks list--i.e., the CONNECT TO OUTLOOK action does not display.

  • FYI:  I found a similar older post which talks about the component set-up, but I haven't been able to act productively on it (it's out of my depth).  In the hopes somebody else can help here with this extra information:  http://objectmix.com/sharepoint/371374-tasks-no-connect-outlook-option.html and http://vspug.com/echef/2008/04/15/scripting-the-quot-connect-to-outlook-quot-function/.

  • Hi,

I understand that your problem is when you want to connect the Project task list to outlook ,the entry ‘Connect to Outlook’ doesn’t show up .What is your outlook version? Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2010? I had a test . In Outlook 2007 you can synchronize task lists, document library,  discussions, share calendars, contact lists and project tasks of  a SharePoint site to outlook . But the issue tracking list cannot be connected to outlook .

For more information about ‘Connect to outlook’, please refer to these sites:

  • My Outlook version is 2007.

I would like to share my Issue Tracking List to Outlook as a calendar rather than as "tasks".  Do you know if this is possible?

In other words, I want to be able to see our department activities (stored within an "Issue Tracking List") in a calendar view within my Outlook.  I would have thought this would be a common request, but I haven't been able to make any headway here...
