the ntvdm cpu has encountered an illegal instruction error appears when accessing a mapped drive from My Computer window RRS feed

  • "the ntvdm cpu has encountered an illegal instruction" error appears when accessing a mapped drive from My Computer.  If you open Windows Explorer and try to access the drive, you can, no problem.  If you manually create a shortcut from scratch on the desktop to the mapped drive, it works fine as well.  It only fails when accessing it from the My Computer window.

I have deleted the mapping and re-mapped it and it still does it. OS is Windows XP Professional SP3.  The machine has a fresh load of Windows XP Pro SP3.

    Anyone know of a fix?

    Thanks.
