Modify outbound caller id RRS feed

  • Question

  • How do I modify the outbound caller ID to display my main inbound phone number instead of the line uri assigned to the users?  The line uri's are fake phone numbers, so it's confusing when these fake numbers come up as the calling party.  We are running mediation and ocs servers onsite with a SIP trunk feed from our provider.

  • Just remove the line uri for the user.  If they are fake numbers then they don't work anyway for inbound calling.  You don't require a line uri in OCS for Enterprise Voice enabled users to make outbound calls.  Having said this some ITSP's allow for a main # to be shown on outbound calls.

Another option is to change the line uri to the format tel:+1<main_line#>;ext=<unique 4 digit ext for each user>  ie. tel:+14165551212;ext=1234
This option may or may not work depending on a few factors including how the ITSP is configured.

  • Few questions and clarifications:

    1) Is this a Lync Server 2010 or OCS 2007 R2?

    2) Do you have a media gateway and/or PBX on premise?

    3) You have a fake number say 12345 for the client. When you make outbound call, you want a main number (e.g. 555-222-1212) to be delivered as caller ID.

If this is a Lync Server, than it is quite easy. In the route select "Suppress CallerID" and fill in main number under alternative caller ID.

If this is an OCS 2007 R2, than second question become relavent. If you have media gateway or PBX on premise than you can manipulate the caller ID in media gateway or PBX to main number.

Hope this answers your question. If it does, please mark it as an answer. Otherwise please post more details.

  • Is there a way in Lync to suppress individual users outgoing caller ID.  Right now our current phone system only sends out the main line for caller ID but in Lync we would like it to send out the user's DID there will be exceptions for people like Execs who may not want their caller ID sent out.  Seems kinda silly but lots of wierd requirements.

    Thanks

  • Actually, it is pretty common request now days.

Create new User policy, new Usage and assign them to new Route (still pointing to the same gateway/trunk). The new Trunk would have different Caller ID settings. Then, assign this new policy to the users with those CID requirements.

  • keep in mind that most analog line providers do not allow you to change the outgoing caller ID.  I ran into this recently with a small installation where they had only 8 analog phone lines.  In this case the phone numbers were from Comcast (truly a four letter word)
