default domain policy RRS feed

  • Question

  • On windows xp platform after joining the domain and checking with gpresult it shows under computer settings that no policies are applied, I’v checked the Domain controller server (win 2003 sp1) there is no single error concerning the GP.

    On the client side :

Under computer settings there are no policies.

Under user settings the default domain policy is there.

The PC account is located in the computer container in AD. any help??

  • thank u for reply.

in the domian they have all the PCs with default domain policy applied under computer settings, on each PC i'v checked the dafault domain policy is applied under computer settings and under user settings.

in the gpmc the default domain policy is linked to all the OUs and enforced.

  • First of all:

Does the event log (system or/and application) show any errors relating to logon or group policy applying?

When you run GPRESULT what groups does it state your computer belongs to?

What settings did you configure in the Default domain Policy that you did expect to see on the Win XP client?

    Second some best practise:

Do not edit not put your workstation specific setting in the default domain policy. This wil effect all computers (including your servers and domain controllers) in the domain.

Do not leave your computers in the “Computers” container since it is exactly that: a container and GPO’s cannot be linked to that hence preventing you from following the best practise above.
