AD discovery Question RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello everyone,

We recently noticed that some computers exist in AD, but has no record in SCCM.  My question is if I enable system AD discovery, will this cause data duplication issue? For example, if computer A already managed by SCCM. Will discovery agent add another computer A in SCCM database after enable the System AD discovery?

    Thank you

  • Duplication will not occur, the names of the computer records from Active Directory will be matched to existing names within SCCM and the discovery details will simply be added to the existing record.

  • To echo MadLuka, DDR records\Computer objects will not duplicate.

However, when you enable AD Discovery only computers with a DNS entry will be discovered. What that means the computer has to have an active OS on it, an "empty container" or "pre-staged" AD Object alone will not be discovered by AD System discovery. Just something to keep in mind.
