Windows server 2016 and Windows 10 Clients updates get stuck on certain % as the service gets terminated unexpectedly RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a few machines which got Windows 10 upgrade and we are running into issues when the client tries to pull updates from WSUS. It starts to pull then gets stuck on a certain percent. In event viewer I keep seeing

The Windows Update service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 5 time(s).

    Event ID 7034

I looked in registry to assure WSUS is pointing to our WSUS server as i can see updates downloading but it gets stuck.

We're not sure if this is a dfs replication issue with policies or what. I also notice also services terminate like WMI, The Update Orchestrator Service for Windows Update service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 5 time(s).

The User Manager service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 5 time(s).

The Delivery Optimization service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 5 time(s).

The Service Control Manager tried to take a corrective action (Restart the service) after the unexpected termination of the Windows Update service, but this action failed with the following error:
An instance of the service is already running.

I just about done everything, shut BITS off and Windows Update services then deleted Software Distribution but same ordeal.   Any clue? Other machines work just fine. I tried sfc /scannow and chkdsk /r  /f  they dont find anything. i did run trouble shooter against the compnents and there were a lot corrupted compnents which gets resolved.

  • think i may have fixed this by installing  kb4025339  from microsoft catalog.  After installing that and restarting I was able to download updates from WSUS and install successfully.  I am testing another Affected machine.
