Symbolic Linked folders and SkyDrive in Windows 8.1 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Does SkyDrive in Windows 8.1 support symbolic linked folders (seems to create SkyDrive.old directory and stop synking...)? If not, is that support coming in update as it WAS working with SkyDrive in Windows 8?

There has been a lot of fuzz and uncertainty around this topic lately.

  • Hi Timo,

    Please try this:

    1. Open regedit and find following key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SkyDrive
    2. Change “UserFolder” to another location.
    3. Open the SkyDrive Metro app to confirm your files and new directory.

  • Hi timo,

Before Windows 8.1, it was possible to sync any folder on your computer with SkyDrive using symbolic links. This method no longer works now that SkyDrive is baked into Windows 8.1, but there are other tricks you can use.

The detailed information, please refer to this article:

  • Hi,

Yes that (= Sync folder) is correct now (verified from registry), does not answer my original question.
