DPM 2016. Agent for Windows 2003 x86 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

we`ve installed DPM 2016. And now having problem with agent running at Windows 2003 x86. When i try to install from System Center 2016 DPM management console, i get error that it cannot install Coordinator.

Ok, i`m installing agent locally. I`we copied C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2016\DPM\DPM\agents\RA\5.0.322.0\i386\ from DPM server to win 2003. the only file that i can run on Win2003 is DPMAgentInstaller_Win2K3_i386.exe. When i try to run any other files from that folder - i`m getting error "not valid win32 application".

Ok, i`ve connected Win2003 to DPM console. And i even can try to create protection group with it. but i cannot select any resource to backup with error "The protection agent is not compatible... The protection agent version is 4.1.3465.0, and the dpm version is 5.0.322.0 (ID: 904)".

Again - i cannot run any update from DPMRA folder. DPM admin console show Win2003 agent version 4.1.3465.0. Update  feature is grayed out.

  • Hi,

As per the support matrix here DPM 2016 does not support protecting Windows 2003 servers.

Note that Microsoft extended support for Windows Server 2003 ended in July 2015.

    DPM 2012 R2 + UR2 or later UR does support protecting Windows 2003 and Windows 2003 R2.

  • While I understand discontinuing support for a product I am left wondering why DPM 2016 still includes a legacy installer for an agent that isn't compatible with itself.

    Why is DPMAgentInstaller_Win2K3_i386.exe being included?
