PPS 2007 in a Distributed Environment RRS feed

  • Question

    In the process of evaluation of the PPS, regarding using PerformancePoint Server 2007 (Planning) in a distributed, non intranet, environment, consider the following scenario:

    - An entity has relationships with multiple business partners who wish to contribute to a global budget over an internet/ extranet connection;

    - Additionally, there is the need to manage the PerformancePoint Planning applications remotely, over the same connection type.

    Nowadays, we are aware that access and security is fully integrated with the operating system and that credentials from the connected user are validated.

    However, since the PerformancePoint Planning architecture is based on a Web Service and HTTP transport protocol, can we expect users to be able to run both Business Modeler and the Excel Add-in, in the near future, using different credentials (maybe by using a log-in dialog box)? This would eliminate the need to setup inter-domain trusts, allowing the Planning Server “host” entity to create additional Planning users that are to be validated against its internal domain.

    Thanks in advance,

    Isabel Martins.
