Change shared mailbox to linked mailbox RRS feed

  • Question

  • hello,

our system is running on exchange 2016 and i'm trying to change a shared mailbox to a linked mailbox without loosing the data

i've already tried to change the shared to a regular mailbox, then disable the mailbox, and connect it to a user in a other domain. It worked, but the mailboxdata got deleted or sth? (it was a testmail and i was able to recover it).

SO does anyone know a way to do this without loosing the mail data?

Answers

  • we can't convert a user or shared mailbox to linked however, there is a workaround that you can try.

    • Export mailbox data to PST file.
    • Use "Disable-Mailbox | Connect-Mailbox...

Access below technet article for Connect-Mailbox

            https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997878.aspx

    • Configure the linked account on client and import the pst in same client.
    • i know this is not fun but have to move all email from pst to ost manually....

  • Hi,

Agree with Chetan, we can't convert a user or shared mailbox to linked. Please refer to the following article:

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-SG/library/jj710164%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

It’s hard to say why sometimes the mails are gone and sometimes not, maybe some entries corrupted.

    Best regards,
