  • Question

  • How do you access Routing and remote access services on a server with windows 7?  XP was able to access this just fine but I am unable ot locate anything for it on 7.  Any help would be greatly appreciate.

  • Hi,

You may install the RSAT tool on the Windows 7 to access the Routing and Remote acess role on a server.

    Download the tool at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=7d2f6ad7-656b-4313-a005-4e344e43997d

  • Thank you for the response.  I found routing and remote access as a service.  It was disabled and I was able to get it started.  I still see where I access it.  Is there a new name for the same function?  I have it active on the ras server but can only access it through remote desktop.

  • Hi,

Please try to download the RSAT tools on the client, then install it. You may run it with domain administrative privilege to access the Function.

    Thanks.

  • That worked for x86 but my 64 bit machines still don't have access to Routing and Remote Access.  It is running in services but we are unable to locate it.  It doesn't appear in administrative tools and does not appear as a snap in for MMC.  Please advise.  Just to be clear my login is a domain administrator login.  So is my network administrator who tried the install and was unable to locate it other than in services.msc.

  • Hi,

I am so sorry, it is my mistake. the Routing and Remote Access snap-in is included in Vista's RSAT version. You may refer to the following link.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941314

But in Windows 7, you can not access the Routing and Remote Access snap-in via RSAT tools.

    Sorry for this again.
