DPM cannot connect to agent RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all.

I have a DPM 2010 and 4 agents installed, sometimes DPM lose the agent connection
    only with one server.
The network connectivity doesn't have problems, smb/ping/rdp etc. work correctly
    between the servers.
I can solve this problem only with a restart the client server (where dpm
    agent installed).
There is an other manner to resolve this issue?

    Regards.

  • Have you installed the rollupp for DPM?

Is there any other server roles installed on DPM server?

Would you pls try  this  go to services and restart the agent , if the issue was resolved. you can write a little script for restart the  DPM agent services then schedule it

  • Hola ferhat,

Yes, I installed the Rollup, the server have Hyper-V role installed.
If I restart the agent the problem doesn't solved.
    Do you have more ideas?

    Thanks.

  • Would you please clarify that if DPM server is working under Hyper-v? or DPM server and hyper-v server role were installed at same physical Machine?

If I were you, I would uninstall the agent, and Install it manually

    http://ferhatindi.com/2011/09/how-to-install-dpm-agent-manually/

Also if there is network connectivity issue

You can check the following link

  • Hi Michele

Dpm server and Hyper are not supposed to be at same physical server. If yes, there will be some performance issues, In my past I had same  problem, hyper-v and dpm they were at same server and had lots of issues either dpm side either hyper-v site,

If you want to resolve the issue, you should p2v your dpm server, after you p2p uninstall the hyper-v role from vm, and uninstall the dpm from Physical server, Once you have the DPM 2010 as virtual , you will have some limitations, I personally  prefer to use DPM as VM

Or uninstall dpm , and create a new DPM as vm,  and update the agents.

It is all up to you

    Good Luck

  • Hello,

You can have the HyperV role installed on the DPM server. This has to be done if you are to perform an item level restore.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff634221.aspx : You must have the Hyper-V role enabled on the DPM server to perform item-level recoveries. During item-level recovery, DPM has to mount the VHDs of the protected virtual machines.

We do ask that DPM be a single purpose machine, and having the HyperV role installed for item level restore (ILR) does seem to contradict this but is needed for ILR.

Where the problem comes into play is when you have DPM and HyperV on the same box AND you are also running virtual machine guest on the same server, then yes you are most likely to run into performance bottlenecks.

    Thanks,
    Shane

  • Hola ShaneB. _ [MSFT],
I have installed the Hyper-V role only for IRL function.
In this moment I have this problem, only this agent cannot connect to DPM
    server.

    Thanks.

  • Hello,

If you restart the DPM agent on the target server, does communication take place then?
    OR
Is the DPMRA service in a hung state?

    Thanks,
    Shane

    dpm agent service stopped unexpected.

  • Hello,

Are there any detailed events in the event log showing up before the DPMRA crash.

    I'd start simply with:

1.) making sure the DPM directory on the target server is NOT being scanned by antivirus.
2.) If the issue still exists, reinstall the DPM agent on this server.

    Thanks,
    Shane

  • Hola ShaneB. _ [MSFT],

there isn't event logged before DPMRA crashs.

    1) There isn't an antivirus installed on this server
    2) Already reinstalled the agent many times but the problems solve only temporally
I opened a support case for this problem.

    Thanks.

That'd probably be your best bet from this point.
A closer look and logging may show something more revealing.

  • Hi.

I solved my problem with these commands on the DPM server:

netsh int tcp set global chimney=disabled

    • netsh int tcp set global rss=disabled

    • netsh int ip set global taskoffload=disabled

    • netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

    • netsh int tcp set global congestionprovider=none

    • netsh int tcp set global ecncapability=disabled

    • netsh int tcp set global timestamps=disabled

You don't forget to update the NIC drivers.

    Regards.
