Exchange 2007 SP3 and SBS2008 - No Recipient Update Service Message RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi
I have recently been asked to apply Exchange 2007 SP3 to a customer's server running SBS2008. SP3 returns a warning message stating "No Recipient Update Service found for domain XXXXX " before anything is installed. There is only one server in the domain.
I am aware that RUS is not required by Exchange 2007. I also have an inkling that this message is as a result of the customer's previously decommissioned Exchange 2003 server still showing in the AD. I have spent the last couple of days trying to find some relevant info on this issue to no avail. My question is - can I go ahead and apply SP3 or do I have to remove all references to the decommissioned server to ensure the " No RUS" message does not reappear? Any help or pointers would be gratefully received

    regards

    Mark

  • Well, since Exchange 2007 doesn't make use of the Recipient Update Service I can hardly imagine that proceeding with Service Pack 3 installation would give you any heartaches so if it would be me sitting infront of the server I'd proceed. (if it's even possible)

  • Hi,

You will receive such warning if exchange 2007 is installed upon an exchange 2003 organization. Since the exchange 2003 server is not using, you can just ignore it and go ahead.

  • Thanks for your answers.

I decided to take the plunge and apply SP3. It took about 35 minutes and so far we have had no issues.

I am sure Installed Exchange 2007 Sp3 will not be a problem, but would still recommend you to do a clean uninstallation of previous version of Exchange if not in use to avoid such error messages in future.
